A Picture For Life

I found this picture interesting since it expresses a lot of things. As we can see the photographer is seeing something bad, even though she tries to take the picture in order to show the reality of something that has not yet been revealed to the world. Moreover, there are some aspects of our lives that sometimes might be difficult to deal with it, but the only option is to face them. What do you think about this picture? Do you think she is crying for a personal reason or because she is seeing something bad?

  1. I think she probably saw something really horrible, or something sad as in seeing something wrong happen or maybe she realized how fortunate she is that she is not the one involved (in whatever that is going on) in this world

  2. Fair trade is the great business idea. Now days in many parts of the world farmers didn’t get fair price for their products. Since there is no restriction or labor standard in many agricultural economic countries; merchants didn’t care about paying fair for the local farmers and labor workers. I believe as a customer we have to make pressure on the big companies to give fair price for poor farmers. Personally I was very active participant in collecting signature to help Ethiopian coffee farmers to gate fair price from Starbucks Coffee Company.

  4. After I view that picture, I think this woman is not happy with her career as the photographer, but she has to continue doing it because she is probably has no choice.Or she sees something terrible happening while taking a picture that reminds her about how difficult her childhood was.

  5. I think this photographer is having a very serious personal reaction to a tragic event. Whatever is going on, it has made a severe impact on her emotionally and she feels that it is an important enough moment to be captured. Perhaps she wants to share this tragedy in order to educate the public on the horrors that do occur worldwide. Once attention is brought to something, then it can be stopped. I think she wants to capture the sadness or injustice that is occurring in order to publicize it and eventually prevent it from happening again. The photographer clearly has a heartbroken expression on her face but she also seems a little hopeless and in shock; as if she can't believe the reality of what is occurring. Her look of hopelessness implies to me that she can't change whatever is happening on her own, but that she is using her camera as a powerful tool to try and stop what is happening. Nowadays, most of the tragic events that happen occur repeatedly because no one knows about them. If a certain injustice is exposed to society, it is sure to cause an outrage and immediate measures will be taken to stop it. I think that is what the photographer is trying to do in this picture- she wants to use her photograph of the incident as a weapon of retaliation.

  6. There is a lot of emotion in this picture more than we can imagine. After looking at her surroundings, clothes, and the way her emotion is expressed I believe she is having a personal life issue. I feel as if she may not even be a real photographer but maybe someone she loved or a close family member was a photographer. Maybe that someone close to her recently passed and she's taking this picture of herself through a mirror hoping to see more than herself. This could be her way of morning a lost loved one who had hopes of her becoming a photographer. All in all I feel she is looking back in her life to the hard times she's endured wondering how she made it this far.

  7. There are TONS of possibilities of what exactly is going on. Of course, the more obvious inferences are that she is witnessing something tragic, and is reacting emotionally as she takes the photos. But there is no proof of this! She could be crying because of that ugly sweater she's wearing. Another thing I noticed is the focusing of the photo. The camera is very unfocused, which shows that the camera itself is not important. What is in clear focus is her face. Besides the fact that she is emotional, I noticed her lips are forming a slight smile. With the look on her face, I would assume she would be thinking something like "I will show the world this tragedy". I agree with what most people are saying above.

  8. I agree with Kyle, there are many possibilities for what is going on. I personally think that the young woman is witnessing something happy. Even though she is crying she appears to have a slight smile on her face. If she was witnessing something horrible or sad I would hope her smile would be gone! I think she is saying goodbye and wanted to take a picture of her love one. At first I thought she could be at a wedding. Yet she doesn't seem to be dressed for one. For this reason I feel that she is saying good bye to a love one.

  9. First of all, it is very obvious that something tragic happened. There are many possibilities she could be having hard time with her personal life, or she is seeing something very emotional which made her cry. Since the title says " A picture for life." , so it is for sure something has to do with someone life, or to her life. by looking at her face she is defiantly, not happy at all, but I can see some pain in her eyes. This picture is a great way to think for a while, and connect some circumstance to this picture.

  10. This is another powerful image. I believe that this woman is witnessing something sad but at the same time, it is a scene worth capturing.
